The Gingerbread Man in the City

Once upon a time in the city of New York, there was a baker who loved Christmas. Whenever it was Christmas, he would bake lots of gingerbread men cookies to give to his family and friends. One day, he was making a gingerbread man for his daughter as a Christmas present. He rolled the dough, cut out the shape of the gingerbread man and decorated it with a scarf and a Christmas hat. Then, he put the gingerbread man into the oven to bake. Soon, the scent of ginger filled the air.

“This is going to be the best present,” he thought. Ding! When the baker opened the oven, he jumped in shock! The gingerbread man was alive and started to run out the store! The baker chased after the gingerbread man.

“Stop! I need you for my Christmas present,” shouted the baker. The streets were crowded with many people and cars zoomed by but the gingerbread man did not stop; he kept running. He sang, “You can’t catch me, I’m as fast as a car.”

Next, the gingerbread man ran past a grocery store. It was big and lots of people were shopping. A grocer was unpacking a carton of oranges when he smelled the scent of freshly-baked ginger cookies. He stopped, looked around and saw the gingerbread man pass by, followed by a baker.

“Mmmm! I want to eat you,” said the grocer, “you look tasty!” But the gingerbread man did not stop; he kept running and singing, “You can’t catch me, I’m as fast as a car.” So, the grocer started chasing the gingerbread man, too.

Then, the gingerbread man ran past an Italian pizzeria. A waiter was serving pizza when, out of the window, he saw the gingerbread man run past the pizzeria followed by a baker and a grocer.

“Stop! I missed my lunch so I need to eat you,” said the waiter. But the gingerbread man did not stop; he kept running. As he ran, he sang, “You can’t catch me, I’m as fast as a car.” So, the waiter started chasing the gingerbread man, too.

He ran until he was at a crossroad. He saw there were many cars driving on the road. “How do I cross the road?” asked the gingerbread man.

A bird was flying towards the gingerbread man and it said, “I can help you cross the road.” The gingerbread man immediately said yes because he was tired of running, so the gingerbread man hopped on the bird.

“Would you like to get on my tree to rest?” asked the bird.

“Sure, thank you for being so kind,” the gingerbread man replied.

So, the bird carried the gingerbread man to its tree. The bird dropped the gingerbread man on the bird’s nestlings. The nestlings ate the gingerbread man hungrily.

The End
